Healthy Solitude

This summer I plan to have a month of "solitude." By that I mean that I will not be using the internet to communicate with people. Only human interaction. Maybe I'll extend that to keeping technological use severely limited. We shall see. As I have said before, sometimes you just gotta slow everything down and take a look at what is around you. I think this will be exactly what I need to get back on track and really focus on the important things in life.

Let us read and let us dance - two amusements that will never do any harm to the world.

  5. I too plan to take a month off of the web, but by time off, I mean that I only plan to use the internet for about 12 hours a day. Not 16 hours.

  7. Good luck, it's going to be hard to cut the net out these days though. Hell, Walgreens is about to roll out facebook access on their digital kiosks.

  10. This sounds kind of hard to do, but at the same time it sounds kind of intriguing. I might try to do this myself when summer comes.

  17. Internet communication has it pros and its cons. While on the one hand the other party is somewhat detached from you, on the other one it allows for a communication in which physical, ethnical, religious and social distances are nullified and left in the outside world. Think about it, I agree there should be a somewhat adequate balance between the two types of communication but I believe cutting internet communication off entirely would only result in a loss of opportunity :)

    1. Huh, I suppose you are right. Maybe just cutting back on time spent on the internet and such would be better. And with the spare time, go out and do things. Hiking, fishing, biking, gym, socialize. Maybe read a few books.
